El Rey Archaeological Site – Get a glimpse of Mexico's pre-colonial past by strolling through Ruinas del Rey (also known more simply as El Rey). Dating back to the 3rd and 2nd century BC, this partially restored archeological site features two plazas (something unique to this particular Mayan city ruin) and a pyramid topped by an astronomy platform. Visitors can also look at unearthed ancient skeletons. Visit El Rey any time daily from 8:00AM to 4:30PM at Blvd. Kukulcán, Km 17, Zona Hotelera, Cancún, Quintana Roo, 77500. Entrance is about $3.50 per head and free on Sundays. For more information, call 998/849-2880. Archeology buffs might also be interested in the Yamil Lu’um and El Meco ruins.
